THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: For the first time ever, the police department here has come up with a four-day exclusive Israeli self-defence training programme for women police personnel. An expert trainer from Mumbai has come down to the state capital to impart the Israeli self-defence technique of ‘Krav Maga’ to the cops who will display it at the Kerala pavilion of India International Trade Fair 2014 to be held in New Delhi this month.

Separate sessions on defence techniques to face various types of attacks, including acid attack, knife attack, chain snatch, rape, hostage situation, child protection and bus problem, are covered in the four-day training programme which would conclude on Tuesday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) S. Ajeetha Begum told DC that the department was planning to provide Krav Maga coaching for the entire women cops as part of Fem Patrol scheme which aims at curbing crime against women. “The majority of the women police personnel were not given proper training in self-defence during training. All interested women cops would be given training on Krav Maga,” said Ajeetha Begum.

As part of the Fem Patrol initiative self-defence coaching will be given to female students in capital city. “On November 14, we are planning for a day-long training programme at Cotton Hill Girls’ High School,” said Ajeetha Begum.
